Calling evil what it is

I anxiously turned on the television and easily found what I was looking for; slain Officer Boyer’s memorial service.  The sanctuary was packed with mourners consisting of family, friends, and peace officers from around Southern California.

One by one Officer Boyer’s loved ones took the pulpit, and offered forgiveness to their father’s killer. Their words were hard to utter yes, but certainly the correct thing to do. Shortly afterward Pastor James came and filled the pulpit to likewise address the crowd. He too was challenged in the arena of words. As he began to speak an eerily refreshing sigh came over the room. Pastor James brought reality to our state of California. Pastor James actually dared call evil what it is, evil. To some it undoubtedly came as a shock. Yet it seemed that too many it was welcomed verbiage. Welcomed perhaps by millions?

Taking a look upon the situation, it is fairly easy to imagine the possible millions in one accord. At the time it was easy to recognize the sad state of affairs our state. Our politicians rarely identify lawlessness let alone ferret it out. It is easy to recognize the sad state of affairs our church community is in as we ignore simple Bible directions, and work tirelessly to qualify sinful behavior to be accepted as normal contemporary life accepted by a Holy God. It’s easy to recognize the sad state of affairs we are in as society blames everybody instead of simply examining ourselves. It is easy to recognize a good man was gunned down in the city Whittier. Yes, it is easy to recognize there is a family that now has to put the pieces of their lives together in the midst of their huge loss.

Certainly we will move on. This foolish action committed by a selfish misguided youngster will fade from memory. Within that thought I momentarily breathe a sigh of relief and thank God Almighty that he has given us a moment of sanity along with the boldness to call evil what it truly is, evil.

Thank you goes out to courageous Boyer family. We here at Calvary Chapel Jurupa Valley are proud to stand with you. May our God of Peace continue to guide and provide for you in the upcoming days. We are proud of you! May justice be served swiftly.
